Teeth Whitening Mississauga

A dazzling white smile is often one of the first things people notice when meeting someone for the first time. Unfortunately, teeth tend to darken with age, and surface stains from food, drink, or tobacco use often compounds the problem. Because of this, it is common for many people to develop a yellowed or tarnished look to their teeth.

Professional in-office teeth whitening treatments can brighten this discolouration and restore the natural beauty of your teeth. There are two main types of teeth whitening treatments used. Depending on your needs, a dentist may use surface whiteners or bleaches.

Surface Whiteners

Surface whiteners are gels or pastes that use abrasives to whiten your teeth. The process is similar to how toothpaste uses tiny abrasive particles to remove plaque from your teeth. The abrasives in surface whiteners are just hard enough to loosen up stains so they can be scrubbed away but not hard enough to cause significant enamel loss or tooth wear.

Bear in mind, however, that these products do not remove tartar buildup from your teeth. You will still need professional dental cleaning to get rid of this and keep your teeth and gums in optimal condition.

Activated Charcoal is one of the most popular products being advertised for teeth whitening. Activated charcoal in toothpaste may help remove surface stains on your teeth. Charcoal is mildly abrasive and is also able to absorb surface stains to some degree. However, there is no evidence that it has any effect on stains below a tooth’s enamel, or that it has a natural whitening effect.

Bleaches

Peroxide-based bleaches are common teeth whitening treatments and usually produce excellent results. However, these formulations do not work equally well in all cases. Patients with fillings, crowns, root canals, and dark stains on their front teeth may have trouble achieving the shade they want with peroxide-based treatment.

There are other whitening options that can produce a more desirable result in these cases. Our Mississauga dental office will evaluate your teeth before whitening and suggest treatment options that are most likely to give you the results you are hoping for.

Whitening Systems we offer:

  1. In office Zoom Whitening
  2. Take home Custom made whitening tray and gels
  3. Ready to use home whitening kits (Available only by your dentist)

Zoom Whitening effectively whitens your teeth in office in 2 hours. We always start with a complimentary consultation so Dr. Tousi can assess your oral condition. If you are a good candidate for zoom Whitening, we book a 2 hours appointment for you with our hygienist. In that appointment special paste will cover your gums to protect the soft tissue from the whitening gel. Whitening gel will be applied to your teeth and a special light will be activating it. Your teeth slowly get whiter while you are relaxed in the chair listening to music. Touch up kit and instructions will be provided to you at the end of the appointment.

Take home whitening kit contains a custom-made tray which is fabricated based on the impression of your teeth. There is different percentage of whitening gels which we choose from based on your oral and dental condition. Clinical studies support the safety and effectiveness of home-use bleaching gels when used appropriately and after consulting with your dentist. Instructions will be provided to you on how to use the kit.

Opalescence whitening kit is a ready-to-use kit which contains 10 upper and lower trays with a layer of gel inside them. This is another safe whitening system we offer our patients and whitens your teeth in 10 days.

Keep in mind if you have active dental cavities, it is not recommended to get teeth whitening. Tooth sensitivity and irritation to soft tissues can occur during bleaching treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Teeth Whitening

Why Should I Have My Teeth Whitened?

Teeth whitening can produce a brighter, more attractive smile that makes many people feel more confident about their appearance and enhances their quality of life.
Teeth whitening treatments pose no risk to your enamel, and many even contain compounds that can strengthen it instead. Modern teeth whitening treatment formulations are also less likely to cause tooth and gum sensitivity than those used in the past.

What Is Zoom Whitening?

Zoom whitening is a clinical whitening treatment that provides dramatic results in just two hours. First, a protective gel is applied to the patient’s gums to minimize irritation from the powerful whitening solution. The solution itself is then applied to the teeth and exposed to a special light that activates its bleaching properties. You can relax and watch TV or listen to music during the rest of the appointment as the solution works to whiten your smile.

Does Your Office Offer Take-Home Teeth Whitening?

Yes. Our take-home whitening solutions allow our patients to achieve safe, professional-quality teeth whitening results in the comfort of their own homes. Similar to our in-office treatments, these solutions use customized bleaching trays to achieve their effects. Discuss your desired outcome with the dentist, and they will advise you on how to use the kit properly.

Does Teeth Whitening Hurt?

Getting your teeth whitened does not cause any direct pain, but some patients may experience some sensitivity in their teeth and gums for a few days after the treatment. If you are especially prone to sensitive teeth, your dentist may recommend limiting the solution’s strength or using a special toothpaste to combat some of the treatment’s effects.

Will Your Teeth Whitening Treatments Damage My Enamel?

No. Teeth whitening treatments performed by a qualified dentist are completely safe and will not harm your enamel or gums in any lasting way. You may experience some temporary sensitivity, but there will be no long-term repercussions from choosing to whiten your teeth with our help.

How Much Does Teeth Whitening in Mississauga Cost?

The cost of teeth whitening in Mississauga varies depending on the type of teeth whitening procedures you choose, the number of sessions needed, how many shades you wish to whiten your teeth, whether you want to undergo additional treatments, and other factors.

If you are interested in professional whitening treatments, our dental team would be happy to discuss your options with you. Once we know the details of the treatment you desire, we can give you a more accurate estimate of the cost.
